Tonnooru Lake is situated at 7 kms from Pandavapura, Mandya District. This magnificient and big lake has been my Photographic destination for past 7 years. I have been visiting the place often, whenever I feel free. Some years ago, I learnt that the road in front of the Lake leads to Melukote, the temple town, after which I usually chose the same road for visiting Melukote. Thus. the Photo collection grew and this series is a result of such repeated visits. But still, a single day is enough to go around the lake and complete the shoot.
While going around, I happened to see three more smaller Lakes near this one. I have included pictures of those also. For a Photographer they also offer many possiblities.
The Nambinarayana temple at the village [Tonnooru].

The Temple is a very vast structure, thanks to the empty area in front of it- which fecilitates a photographer to move around to get desired shots. I have tried two compositions to include the Garudagambha- Piller in the Picture, of which this is first one. Shot with a Canon EOS 50D with EFS 17-85mm IS USM lens [from hereon I call it as Canon 50D], it gave me the better perspective than common 18-55 mm lens.
Usually I prefer to fit a CPL in front of the lens as for as possible.

Frontyard or Prakaara of the temple. The temple was closed when I visited. This composition usually works, but has not done good here due to lack of another stram of light.

The Garudagambha- piller silhoutted. It was around 12-1 pm, and very hot. I was searching for a shade and moved into this shade, then got the idea of sihoutting.

The extreme South part of the Lake. A small pathway takes us to this area from the road leading to Sanaba. As any photographer would desire, this mud road has a gradient and gives a high vantage point to shoot. With CPL on my Canon 50D, I started on.
The bright colour of the path leads our eyes to the lake, contrasting the Blues of the Sky.

The vast expanse of Lake, shot from south end. The line of fense-poles give a perspective view of the same. In the background, the Melukote hill is seen - at the right.

A trial to include both the Lake and the adjacent hill. I call it as view-01.

The deep Blues in the frame balance well with the Greens of the Foreground and presence of the trees induce the Life in the picture.

The Southwest shore of the Lake. The road passes through a village -Tirumalapura, turns to the right and proceeds to enter Sanaba. Here my objective was to showcase the breadth of waterbody.

Now we have entered the Western part of the Lake. this is just oppsite to the main Tank-bund area. The small piece of land looked like a crocodile and I captured it. All of these were shot with Canon 50D with CPL.

I am not well versed with Telephoto lenses to shoot landscapes. But still, have tried to shoot one with 40mm lens- resulting 64 mm. The small gap seen between the hills is the tank bund area or the main place of the lake.

The area is near Sanaba. For a change, I have used a graduated ND [GD8] filter, instead of CPL.

The opposite shore- main area of the Lake. This is the result of Canon ef 70-300mm IS lens. An L series lens may yeild better, but as for as I am concerned, this seems satisfying to me.

Reflections and reflections. After passing through Sanaba, On the way to Sanabadakoppalu there is an extension of Lake at the North. A small bridge has been constructed over it and the place is a visual delight. I shot many pictures but posting here a few. Blue dominates the Green because of the reflection and I am stuck with it!

Once upon a time, my uncle had gifted me a photobook - Images of Oregon and I considered it as my Photography textbook to study. Here I got a chance to recreate one of its contents- " the picture of Lake and Mt Washington".
The difference is- the land here is a plain, where as it is a hilly area there.

I wish the weeds in the foreground not be there. Another composition to display the glass-like effect of reflection.
All of these were shot with Canon 50D+ CPL.

The North eastern part of the lake. This was my first visit to Melukote via Tonnooru kere road. It was May and the water level was dipping. A bed of Grass was seen in the peripheral areas of Lake. I had fixed a CPL over my 50D and what more? Got the reflection - Blue hues.

The lighter tones of rocks in the foreground, break the dominence of Green and Blue.

The same area shot in the month of January. Waterlevels are still high. The land stretch in the forground was purposefully included in the picture to give a feel of visual depth. Canon 50D faithfully captured the scene.

There were some trees near the Lake and I thought of shooting Sunsets there. I just waited on, and it came through. A small change in Custom White Balace Sampling brought this result. Canon powershot SX 160, A compact camera was used here.

After the Sunset, colours galore in the sky. I have tried to record both - highlights and shadows using some means of HDR imaging.

Same scene with addition of human element. These two shots were also my experiments with Canon1200d+ef 40mm lens, to shoot landscapes.
